Iowa smashes Temple in absolute nail-biter

We were all sweating – 72-70 overtime finish to seal the deal

The Hawkeyes soar to the second round after Gesell and Woodbury score a buzzer beater layup to finish the first round game of NCAA March Madness.

WOODY!

Going into this game I felt like I failed the Hawkeyes with picking Temple to win the game (having them falling to Villanova next round) because the last few games were a little rough for Iowa.

I had small hopes for this game but man, I am really glad they messed up my already horrible bracket.

Don’t judge me, I made this in like five minutes of horrible choices

Excitement was in the air when the Hawkeyes took to a 12 point lead 10 minutes into the game. Temple started closing the gap again, but right after that Woodbury brought the ball in for a major slam dunk to bring it back to a 12 point lead.

Temple came back to tie up the game right before the half, but fouled Iowa, which brought the score to 38-37 Iowa going into halftime. Throughout the first half and most of the second half Iowa went without a turnover, having the first turnover with 3:44 left in the game.

The game got super exciting when, with eight seconds left, junior Peter Jok scored his two free-throws bringing the score to 63-60 Iowa, but with two seconds left senior Anthony Clemmons drew a shooting foul which brought Temple’s Quenton DeCosey to the line to shoot three.

He made all three bringing the game into an intense overtime. The lead changed three times, going back and forth until the end where the game was tied again with 50 seconds left.

Everyone was holding their breath when with three seconds left Gesell missed a two point jump shot, but Woodbury grabbed the offensive rebound with one second to spare jumping up to make a two point layup to close the game.

GO HAWKS, we never had any doubt. Except for that brief 5 minutes.
