Huge anti-Trump Rally Hits UA Mall

‘People say they don’t see change, but this is change.’

On Monday night, multiple non-Trump supporters gathered around the University of Arizona mall to express their feelings of anger and disappoint of last week’s Presidential election. There were multiple people that spoke to the crowd to advocate for African Americans, Latinos, Muslims, Asians and LGBTQA.

Many people in the crowd had signs that displayed content such as, “He is not my president”, “Be kind! Spread love”, “Do not normalize hate! #I’mStillWithHer”, and many more. Not only were there various speakers, but there were also musical performances – one performance made the protest more fun by having the crowd sing along to the lyrics.

Many Trump supporters would pass by to crowd and yell things such as, “Go Trump! Build that wall!” or “F**k Hillary! Make America Great Again!”, which caused a lot of the protestors to be upset. A lot of speeches that were given were different varying on who told it, but they all had the same message. They wanted to inform the audience to not give up on fighting for their rights and that they should keep fighting if Trump were to try and take away any of them.

One speaker named Jessica, a student here at UA said, “no one can take away knowledge. Knowledge is power.” There were many chants, tears, and passion throughout the entire rally. People ranging in age, sex, ethnicity, and sexual orientation came together to protest in a peaceful yet powerful way. After the rally they continued to walk down University Boulevard and onto 4th Avenue.
