Nick Thompson is seriously urging the Love Is Blind season nine cast to rebel against Netflix
'You could make history'
Nick Thompson, who starred in Love Is Blind season two, is urging the new season nine cast to make a stand against Netflix. He’s now made a video urging them to take a stand against the show, as the co-founder of the UCAN foundation, as part of a long case he’s been fighting.
Back in April, Nick told us, “They have a lack of autonomy while filming because of labour laws. We should be classified as employees instead, which would give us many of the rights that contractually give us the ability to negotiate pay and the ability to get overtime pay.”
He also said they should have mandated breaks and that he “helped file a case against them in December, which labelled us as employees.” Basically, Nick is still passionate about making sure they are being treated fairly, and tells them, “You have all the power right now.”
He says that, as they are about to close in on their reunion ep, they are classed as employees and “have the ability to take a stand while this NLR8 thing is working itself out.” Nick is referring to the National Labour Relations Board, a government agency protecting workers’ right.
The agency claim the casting agency is breaking the law by classifying contestants as contractors. Basically, this means the contestants don’t have the ability to speak up about working conditions, such as long filming days, and can’t negotiate on terms like minimum wage.
Nick filed a case against Kinetic Content, who draw up the contracts and reach out to the show’s potential contestants. He claimed reality TV stars are considered contractors rather than employees, meaning they don’t get the same rights as someone deemed an employee.
Kinetic Content denied any wrongdoing and has vowed to challenge the NLRB’s complaint.
Reality Shrine has contacted Kinetic Content and Netflix for comment.
