Um, let’s debunk Cierra’s weird comment about koalas ‘causing chlamydia’ on Love Island USA
Interesting conversation starter
Cierra randomly said that koalas are “causing chlamydia” on Love Island USA, and it baffled everyone. But actually, there’s some truth to what she’s saying during that random conversation about sexually-transmitted diseases, so don’t bash her too quickly.
Cierra said koalas ’cause chlamydia’ on Love Island USA
Cierra came out with the random comments that chlamydia came from koalas, gonorrhea came from cows, and Christopher Columbus had sex with manatees. She also said that STDs were caused by humans having intercourse with animals.
She asked, βDid you know STDs only formed because men couldn’t keep their d*** outside of animals, like, chlamydia is from koalas?β On a Facebook show fan page, a commenter wrote, βIβm a scientist and when she started her rant I immediately died laughing.”
They added, “I think she heard that on TikTok and just repeated it.β With Cierra’s background in content creation, she can definitely make a high-quality video or two, and capture some decent pictures, but science? Leave it to the doctors!
Is there actually any truth in what Cierra said?
This girl really said βChristopher Columbus had sex with a manateeβ on Love Island and a RN said thatβs wild during the STD discussion.

Well, sort of. Koalas have chlamydia pecorum, according to Wildlife Health Australia – the main cause of chlamydial infection. However, it’s a different species than the one that infects humans. If a human gets chlamydia, they are typically infected with Chlamydia trachomatis.Β
NPR states that koalas were likely originally infected by contact with faeces from other infected animals, and then the marsupials spread it from mother to offspring, and to each other. But there are still loads of questions about the actual origin of chlamydia.
βWe know surprisingly little about the evolutionary origins of Chlamydia trachomatis,β according to research from the Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences. It’s an epidemic killing off lots of koalas in Australia, as they are declining by 80 percent as a result.
