Kaelynn has just shared her REAL thoughts on controversy surrounding Love on the Spectrum
She reveals there's 'room for improvement'
Kaelynn has been speaking out against Netflix’s Love on the Spectrum recently, revealing that she felt it was unfair they didn’t ask her back for season two or three. Either way, there’s been talk that the show is problematic, and the seasons one star is now having her say on the matter. She did admit that there’s “room for improvement” in her recent video.

@kaelynn_vp Of course there’s room for improvement…and yes, the community at large SHOULD speak on things that affect them. HOWEVER…when doing so, remember to be inclusive in that dialog. Consider the perspectives of those of us who were actually there. It’s only when we truly come together as a community that we can enact the change we’d like to see. Personally, I think LOTS is a great ✨step✨ toward autism representation in media and there’s plenty of room to grow 🩷 #autistic #loveonthespectrum #autism #autismawareness #actuallyautistic #autismacceptance #neurodivergent #autisticadult #netflix
Kaelynn is responding to claims made by viewers that Love on the Spectrum “infantilizes” people with autism. Other criticism claimed that she show promotes an ‘us and them’ approach, separating people with autism from the rest of the world, and downplays the cast’s abilities to make decisions for themselves, along with oversimplistic editing.
She said, “There’s a lot of irony based on the fact that none of these critics have asked the actual cast members have felt about our betrayal. Most of us are on social media and frequently talk about our experiences. You can’t hear us say that we enjoyed our time on the show, and then turn around and claim that we were actually treated like children… ‘We just didn’t realize it.'”
“To talk over the entire cast who all said we felt it was positive for us and claim we weren’t treated with dignity seems so hypocritical. That line of thinking in itself is way more infantilizing than anything I ever encountered on the show. You can’t expect one series alone to represent all the nuances of autism. The producers of Love on the Spectrum understand the value of diverse casting,” Kaelynn added.

Kaelynn is very much on the Love on the Spectrum producers’ side, saying they “provide accurate information” and said, “From my perspective, they’re leading the way for more autism representation on television.” She added that she believes what they’re doing is “fantastic,” writing, “Of course there’s room for improvement…and yes, the community at large SHOULD speak on things that affect them.”
In the video caption, Kaelynn also said, “HOWEVER…when doing so, remember to be inclusive in that dialog. Consider the perspectives of those of us who were actually there. It’s only when we truly come together as a community that we can enact the change we’d like to see.
