White Lotus creator reveals the Ratliff family was based off cast of Southern Charm
Jason Isaacs mimicked their accents for the show
Southern Charm and The White Lotus isn’t a crossover I was necessarily thinking I’d be writing about ever, but here we are.
As it turns out, the creator of White Lotus revealed how the cast of Southern Charm inspired the characters of the Ratliff family.
The Ratliff family are obviously filthy wealthy and the first episode shows them clashing the moment they arrive, which only worsens when the dad finds out he might have lost all their family money, but tries to keep it a secret.
Sam Nivola, who plays Lochlan Ratcliff in the series revealed how he watched the iconic reality show to prepare for filming.
He told PEOPLE that the creator of White Lotus, Mike White, told him to watch Southern Charm as inspiration for his character.
He explained: “Mike told us to go watch Southern Charm. In fact, Jason Isaacs, who played our dad, kind of modelled his whole accent and character off of [that cast].”
He joked that his on-screen sister, Sarah Catherine Hook, didn’t have to watch any of the show before filming because she “had it down already.”
She explained: “I’m from Alabama. I found out through you guys. I was like, ‘He didn’t tell me to watch Southern Charm! I’m feeling left out.’”
