*Warning: Spoilers ahead for Ted Lasso season 4 episode 9* Roy and Keeley have only just gotten back together, but Ted Lasso season 4 episode 9 delivers news that blows their reconciliation out of the water: Keeley is pregnant! The start of this week’s episode sees Keeley (Juno Temple) in the stands cheering on the Lady Greyhounds when, all of a sudden, she faints. Later, she heads for a checkup, where Caroline (Lauren Hendricks) suggests she might be pregnant. Lo and behold, after peeing on a whole load of sticks, Keeley confirms that she does, in fact, have a bun in the oven. Although she keeps it from Roy (Brett Goldstein) at the start, she finally whispers the news to him right at the end. His response? “That’s the best f**king thing I’ve ever heard in my life.” I’m not crying, you are. This clearly sets up them raising the baby together, but given they’ve only just gotten back together, there’s just one question… Is Roy the father of Keeley’s baby? Credit: Apple TV Yes, and the seemingly dodgy timeline actually explains why. But first, let’s explain where the confusion may be coming from. Season 4 episode 9 of the Apple TV series jumps forward in time by around six weeks, and when Keeley checks when she last had her period, she’s shocked to discover it was “eight f**king weeks ago”. But Keeley and Roy weren’t even back together eight weeks ago, so at first glance, the dates seem slightly off. However, Keeley saying her last period was eight weeks ago actually makes the timing line up almost perfectly. Conception typically happens around two weeks after the start of your last period, which would mean Keeley got pregnant roughly six weeks ago – right around the time she and Roy reunited. In short, they wasted almost no time, and we couldn’t be happier for them. Keeley’s pregnancy could answer another huge Roy question in the season 4 finale Credit: Apple TV Given Roy’s contract is up at the end of the season for the Richmond men’s team, some Ted Lasso fans are speculating whether the season 4 finale might reveal a new path as a primary caregiver to his and Keeley’s unborn child. As one Redditor speculated ahead of the release of this week’s episode, “I can see a world where Roy, his contract is running down, he still loves the game but taking a lesser role on the Men’s team. “If he and Keeley end up expecting a child I can totally see him being the at home care taker, because as noted in the first episode of the season, Keeley thrives off of work and it could be another example of a working mom within the show and that could keep Roy and Keeley’s storylines together.” Another wrote on X, “So do we think the whole lack of contract for Roy thing is going to mean he leaves football to be a stay at home dad while Keeley works to keep growing the club/her business?” Credit: Apple TV It’s certainly a plausible idea. Others have been predicting what the couple might call their baby, especially after the tragic death of Mae (Annette Badland) in episode 9. “Obviously Roy and Keeley will name their baby daughter Mae and she’ll grow up to be a footballer,” wrote one fan on X. And if you’re still sore over Mae’s death (you’re not alone), actress Annette Badland explained that this week’s episode is the perfect example of the circle of life – one life ends and another begins. “Oh yes, well it’s absolutely true, isn’t it? We move along,” she told Deadline. “We’re here for a very short time, and the next wave, the next group of people comes in. I’m delighted for Keeley, just delighted, and poor old Roy.” The Ted Lasso season 4 finale lands on Apple TV at 6pm PT on Tuesday, October 6 – or Wednesday, October 7 if you’re not in the US.
