Tasha Smith is back as Angela in Tyler Perry‘s Why Did I Get Married Again? and if you thought why she looked noticeably different, there’s a very good reason behind it. Smith is back as Angela Williams in the third film, alongside Michael Jai White as her husband Marcus. They were last seen together in Why Did I Get Married Too? in 2010, so there’s obviously been a lot of time between the films. Actually, it has been 16 years since the last movie, and Smith has continued working across film and television in the meantime. Netflix’s new film brings Angela and Marcus back together for their daughter Jasmine’s wedding in Lake Como, Italy. But while people are catching up with the characters, plenty have also been catching up with Smith herself, and loads of viewers have noticed that her face looks different from the Angela they remember. So, what has actually changed? Tasha Smith has spoken about changing the appearance of her nose Credit: Netflix According to Comic Basics, Smith told BET that she had received minor hyaluronic acid injections to refine the appearance of her nose. The treatment is a non-surgical procedure and is different from having a traditional nose job. Apparently, the injections were used to improve the shape of a small bump on the bridge of her nose. There has been plenty of online speculation about Smith having other cosmetic work done, including claims about fillers in her cheeks and lips or a facelift. But Smith has not confirmed those claims. Why does she look so different in the new film? Credit: Netflix Well, if you think about it, Tasha Smith first played Angela in Why Did I Get Married? in 2007, then returned for Why Did I Get Married Too? in 2010. The new film is in 2026. That means viewers are comparing a woman they last saw on screen 16 years ago with the same actress today. She is supposed to look different. And she has not exactly disappeared during that time. She has continued acting and directing, with credits including Empire, The Deliverance, Bad Boys: Ride or Die and other film and television projects. There are also the usual differences between an old film and a new one: Lighting, cameras, makeup, hairstyles, styling and even how a particular scene is shot can change how someone’s face appears on screen. Smith has also spoken about what it was like to return to the role after such a long gap. In an interview with ComingSoon, she explained how she approached coming back to the character. “It’s been 10 years, literally, but it all starts with the script, honestly. It just starts with the script, honouring the words on the page and telling the story the best way you can,” she said. Smith also said returning to work with Michael Jai White was easy and described reuniting with her fellow actresses as feeling like a family reunion.
