Elliot Page says he’s had no role offers after The Odyssey’s success for ‘obvious reasons’

He says it’s ‘tricky to get cast now’

Elliot Page has revealed he currently has no acting roles lined up following the huge success of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, saying that it’s become “a little tricky” for him to get cast.

Page reunited with Nolan 16 years after appearing in Inception to play Sinon in The Odyssey, joining a huge ensemble cast including Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya and Robert Pattinson.

But prior to its release, the film faced an ugly wave of right-wing backlash against its cast. There were false claims that Page had been cast as Achilles, which prompted transphobic abuse online, while Lupita Nyong’o was subjected to racist attacks over her casting as Helen of Troy.

The backlash included US TV host Rob Finnerty deadnaming Page while falsely claiming he was playing Achilles. Elon Musk later joined the online pile-on, responding “Banger” to a post mocking Page.

Despite this hateful noise, The Odyssey went on to become one of the biggest movie hits of 2026, with many praising Page’s excellent performance. 

Speaking on Kevin McCarthy’s On Film podcast this week, Page said people regularly approach him to tell him how much the Hades scene affected them.

But when McCarthy assumed Page must now be receiving “a zillion calls” following the movie’s success, the actor immediately corrected him. “No, Kevin, I’m not,” he said, before confirming that he doesn’t really have another project lined up.

And it’s not because he wants a break. “No, I’d really love to do ideally good work. That’s what I’d love to do,” he explained. 

Page then reflected on how he’s in a place where he feels comfortable in himself and is ready to do his best work, contrasting that experience with some of his biggest roles before he transitioned.

Looking back at playing Ariadne in Inception, Page stressed that he had “such a great time” making the film, but added, “I was also personally really uncomfortable.”

With Juno, he felt “a bit more comfortable and embodied” playing the character, but now that underlying discomfort is no longer something Page has to deal with when performing.

“I feel like I could maybe do some of my best work now,” he explained. “I’m not having to literally work through a performance that I don’t even quite know I’m doing to get to a performance.”

Page then reflected on how he was perceived earlier in his career compared to now, and suggested he may need to become more proactive about approaching filmmakers himself.

“I was seen in a certain way before and it is different now,” he said. “So maybe there is something to reaching out to people and trying to create connections and projects that way.”

But he added, “It’s a little tricky for me to get cast right now. I think that’s probably for pretty obvious reasons.” 

Page didn’t explicitly spell out what those “obvious reasons” were other than making a joke about being Canadian, but his comments come after years of speaking openly about dealing with transphobia both in and outside of the industry. 

Despite the lack of calls after The Odyssey, the actor said he feels “so lucky” for the career he’s had so far and thanked Nolan for bringing him back. And he’s received plenty of support, with many fans hoping to see him more in the near future. 

“Elliot is genuinely my goat! I got so lucky to meet him at Liverpool comic con a couple of years back. All timer human being so kind and cool to chat with, you can see that here,” wrote one. “So glad you got him as a guest and he smashed it as Sinon.”

“He’s so f**king charming. Whatever Elliot’s next project is, I’m seated,” said another.
