Beauty in Black makes it pretty clear that Horace is attracted to Angel, while also having a sexual relationship with Kimmie, so is he actually gay or bisexual?

Horace Bellarie, played by Ricco Ross, has had a complicated relationship with his sexuality throughout the series. He admits that Angel, a dancer at the club, has caught his eye. At the same time, Horace is attracted to Kimmie and eventually has s*x with her.

Basically, Beauty in Black has given us evidence that Horace is attracted to both men and women, but it has never actually given him a label.

So, is Horace gay or bisexual?

Ricco Ross has spoken about the storyline himself, and he was very open about wanting to take on a role like this. Speaking on the Effective Immediately podcast, Ross explained that most of the roles he had been offered throughout his career had been similar types of characters because of his appearance and physicality.

“As an artist, you wanna play something different. You wanna show that you have that range. I’ve wanted to play gay characters in the past,” Ross said.

For Ross, though, the important thing was that Horace’s attraction to Angel had to feel genuine. He explained, “If I’m gonna play a gay character, I’m gonna, if I’m gonna accept that role, I gotta make it work. I want that to be real for me. I want it to be real for the camera when they look in my eyes.”

In a separate interview with Men’s Journal, Ross also said, “When you first meet him, you think that he is extremely homophobic. And later on, you find out that he is rather sexually curious himself… So, there’s a lot of layers, and it’s a very complex character.”

So, based on what Ricco Ross has said, Horace might actually be bi-curious.

Horace’s love life might be a bit complicated, but Ross is actually married to Julie Shannon Ross in real life. The couple got married on 10 August 2008, meaning they have been married for 18 years now.

Ross has referred to Julie as his “Goddess” in one of his Instagram posts. The couple also have two daughters, Aisha and Makaila, and a son, Rami.

Before his role in Beauty in Black, he revealed that he actually had a conversation with his wife about it. He said, “I did have a conversation with my wife because my wife was more uncomfortable with me than I was.”

He added, “It wasn’t a tough conversation. She just thought it was a conversation that needed to be had. And she just thought it was something that needed to be put in the contract. The limits on it.”
