Alan Ritchson is heading to Philadelphia in the next installment of Reacher, but that’s not the only difference heading into season four. The release schedule is a little different, so be sure to take note of when the first episodes land on Prime Video. At the end of season three, Reacher brought Quinn’s arms-trafficking operation crashing down. After winning a truly brutal showdown with the towering Paulie, he settled his years-long score with Quinn, avenging the murder of his former colleague Dominique Kohl. With the mission complete, Reacher once again hit the road alone in search of his next destination. Season four adapts Lee Child’s Gone Tomorrow, swapping coastal Maine for the streets of Philadelphia, where a chance encounter with a distraught stranger on the subway drags him into yet another sprawling conspiracy. The setting might be different, but you can expect lots of bone-crunching fight scenes, questionable decisions made by people who think they can take on Jack Reacher, and at least a few bad guys who’ll end up regretting it. Of course, with this being the fourth season, the challenge for the cast and crew was how best to raise the stakes. But in a conversation with Collider, Ritchson explained that showrunner Nick Santora’s approach isn’t to try and beat themselves every time. “We just have to continue to be different,” he said. “If we just surprise people with where Reacher can go and what he can get into, we’ll always keep people guessing, ‘What’s going to happen this time?’” Executive producer and director Sam Hill noted the difference in setting, saying, “It has a different fabric to it. “What’s new and exciting about every season isn’t necessarily like, ‘Oh, this person is a bigger, better person,’ or, ‘This is a bigger, harder challenge.’ It’s this whole new group of people reacting to a Reacher perspective on the world.” But perhaps the biggest change is related to Reacher himself, with the cast and crew telling Collider that he doesn’t have all the answers this time round. And that certainly rings true for the subway incident. “This is the first time we’re seeing him confounded by a case that he wants so badly to unravel and understand, and it’s not something that he has an intimate connection with,” Ritchson continued. “It’s not his family, it’s not his adoptive family, and so this is confounding in a lot of ways.
