Following his landmark deal with Netflix a few years ago, which sent his net worth to new heights, it feels a little like Harlan Coben is stalking us. You blink, and there’s a new show on Netflix. To date, Harlan Coben’s Netflix adaptations include Safe, The Stranger, The Woods, The Innocent, Gone for Good, Stay Close, Hold Tight, Fool Me Once, Missing You, Just One Look, Caught, and Run Away. There are even more on platforms like Amazon Prime Video, CBS, and Sky One. With the release of the newest series, I Will Find You, suffice it to say, he’s doing pretty damn well. Inside Harlan Coben’s insane Netflix deal After selling over 75 million books, most of which were translated into 43 languages around the world, it was only natural that the bigwigs at Netflix got dollar signs in their eyes. They announced the partnership with the author in 2018, booking him for 14 English-language and foreign-language series, as well as films. “Harlan’s page-turning crime novels are beloved by readers around the world,” said Erik Barmack, Vice President of International Originals for Netflix. “We are excited to continue our partnership with him and develop his suspenseful thrillers into global Netflix originals.” Similarly, Harlan himself said: “I loved working with the Netflix team on Safe, and seeing the fantastic audience response around the world. I’m thrilled to continue our relationship to create more original films and series with them on a global scale.” The deal was initially for five years, but Netflix renewed the pact for another four following the undeniable success of Harlan’s shows. Though the money behind the scenes is not publicly known, we do know that it was a “multimillion dollar” deal. Presumably, even more money was involved when Netflix extended the contract.
