There’s a very iconic TikTok sound dominating the For You Page right now and as a HUGE horror fan it is one that brings me endless joy. It is of course a true celebration of the iconic Lorraine Warren and how people are realising it was extremely camp when she shouted at Valak. If you don’t know who Valak is off the top of your head, you would know it more as the nun – probably one of the most famous faces of 2010s horror who dominated so hard in films not focussed on it it had to get its own spin off as well. In the audio, she says “Your name gives me dominion over you demon. And I do know your name. You are Valak. The defiler. The profane. The marquis of snakes.” It’s an iconic moment in the film because all throughout The Conjuring 2 – and in the background of the first film – Valak is terrifying Lorraine. Lorraine keeps seeing a vision of her husband Ed dying and Valak is also continually stalking and tormenting her at every turn. By the dramatic climax of The Conjuring 2, Lorraine has learned and remembered who Valak is because she went into a trance once and wrote it in a book. In demonology, it’s a well known trope that naming a demon gives you power over it. She names Valak and ends the reign of terror. For a while, at least. The Valak TikTok sound has made The Conjuring 2 get a new lease of life and it’s honestly so iconic.
