After a subtle hint from his wife Eva Mendes, Ryan Gosling’s gothic folk band Dead Man’s Bones looks set to release new music for the first time in 17 years. A lot has been going down for the actor since the band last dropped music back in 2009. La La Land, Barbie, Blade Runner 2049 and Project Hail Mary are just a few of the blockbuster hits he’s led in the intervening years. But it now looks as though the actor is returning to his music roots, with Dead Man’s Bones teasing new content just in time for Halloween. Taking to Instagram with their only post, @deadmansbonesmusic shared a suitably spooky teaser showing a man reciting a poem with eerie music in the background. At the end, a girl – who some fans believe might be one of Gosling and Mendes’ daughters – announces, “October 27th.” Mendes already sparked speculation on Thursday, October 22, when she shared a clip of Fiona Florence backed by the band’s song ‘In the Room Where You Sleep.’ “Fiona Florence’s spooky beauty to one of my favorite songs,” she wrote. “Wouldn’t be the spooky season without Dead Man’s Bones. Sure wish they had new music coming out…” She then shared a follow-up with a video of herself alongside the song ‘Buried in Water’. “Trying to summon new music from Dead Man’s Bones,” she wrote. “I can feel it in the air….” And if that weren’t enough, Gosling replied to this post to say, “YOU ALL IT IS HAPPENING!!! IT IS REALLY HAPPENING!!!! EVERYBODY STAY CALMMMM.” Total side note, but these two are actual couple goals. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Dead Man’s Bones, the band is made up of Gosling and his longtime friend Zach Shields, with both contributing vocals and instruments. The pair originally bonded over their shared love of all things spooky, including their mutual obsession with Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion ride. No, really. Speaking to NME amid the release of Project Hail Mary, the actor said, “When I went on the Haunted Mansion ride when I was 12, it presented [death] like: ‘Well, maybe it’s not so bad or scary. Maybe it’s fun.’ So it just clicked for me. “I’ve always loved that ride and Disney’s approach to scary things, like [Walt Disney’s 1929 short film] The Skeleton Dance and [1937 cartoon] The Old Mill. They’ve an angle on [scary things] that’s very unique.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Eva Mendes (@evamendes) Their love for spooky things eventually turned into Dead Man’s Bones, with the duo releasing their self-titled debut album in 2009. Despite building a cult following over the years, they never released a second album. But this all looks set to change in 2026 – just in time for Halloween.
