Young Sheldon star Iain Armitage has revealed how he responds when people ask about his dating life, including whether he’s gay or in a relationship with his former co-star Mckenna Grace. The 18-year-old actor grew up in the spotlight playing Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory prequel, which ran for seven seasons before coming to an end in 2024. And while he’s very used to being recognised in public, it turns out some people aren’t afraid to ask him some pretty personal questions. Speaking in Jessica Radloff’s new book, Young Sheldon: The (Juicier-Than-Meemaw’s-Brisket) Inside Story of the Hit Comedy, Armitage opened up about the speculation surrounding his love life. “As it is, in real life I’ve also gotten everything from people thinking I’m dating specific people, like Mckenna, or people thinking I’m gay,” he said. Do you have a girlfriend?’ and I’ll say something funny to make someone laugh and divert the conversation. Or, ‘That’s private, dude, don’t ask that.’” And apparently, his dating life isn’t the only thing strangers want to know about. Armitage said he also gets asked how much money he’s made, with some people telling him they’re going to look up his net worth. His response to that? “That’s weird. Don’t do that.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Iain Armitage (@iain) The comments come after Armitage addressed claims that he could sometimes be “difficult” while filming Young Sheldon. His former co-star Annie Potts, who played Meemaw, explained that the entire show revolved around Armitage’s character. And this placed a huge amount of responsibility on him from the age of eight. “Yes, sometimes he was difficult. But I’ve worked with grown-ups who were a lot worse,” she said, adding that she made the comments with “absolute love and respect.” Armitage also acknowledged that starring in the show was a big undertaking for someone so young. “I always did the best that I could, and sometimes kids are not perfect. I was grateful to the people who understood that and gave me grace,” he said.
