Amanda Seyfried has sparked confusion and concern after giving a particularly elusive answer in an interview over the weekend, but there’s actually a reason why – and the actress herself has responded to the chaos. The Jennifer’s Body star took to the red carpet on Saturday (October 17) night to attend the 2026 Academy Museum Gala, an annual star-studded fundraising event that takes place in Los Angeles. While there, The Hollywood Reporter asked how her life is at the minute, to which Seyfried replied, “It’s interesting, yeah, it’s interesting.” She then confirmed that it’s hard to do interviews right now, adding, “But, for a good reason. I don’t know, I think everything that’s happening is meant to happen. Everything, everyone that’s in your life is meant to be in your life.” Amanda Seyfried says her life right now is “interesting” and “everything that’s happening is meant to happen” at the #AcademyMuseumGala pic.twitter.com/sXvjWrmVjl — The Hollywood Reporter (@THR) October 18, 2026 This elusive conversation continued, with Seyfried and the interviewer referring to things she “can’t talk about”. She had a similar chat with Deadline at the event, with the interviewer saying they were “reeling” from something. “It’s exciting I guess,” Seyfried said while shrugging. Essentially, none of this will make any sense to you unless you know the context (more on this next). For now, viewers have been left scratching their heads. “Is she ok? She seems so nervous,” said one X user, while another wrote, “Yeah, she looks nervous and scared.” A third added, “She is so weird in all her interviews at the moment.” Amanda Seyfried weighs on what the past 48 hours have been like pic.twitter.com/6y9hyMwwnt — Deadline (@DEADLINE) October 18, 2026 Over on TikTok, one said in response to the Deadline clip, “This is like the third interview I’ve seen with her about to absolutely break down, genuinely what is happening?” Others are taking aim at the interviewers, accusing them of trying to pry into Seyfried’s personal life. But there’s some important context behind these rather cryptic interviews, including a surprising new project. Before we get into it… *Warning: spoilers ahead* The context behind those wild Amanda Seyfried interviews You see, the interviews took place at the event one day after the new Elizabeth Holmes documentary You Can See Everything dropped in cinemas. And there’s a huge twist in the film that was kept top secret: Seyfried, who previously portrayed Holmes in the miniseries The Dropout, appears as both herself and in her role as Holmes. Credit: Hulu Directed by The Rehearsal creator Nathan Fielder and filmmaker Lance Oppenheim, the documentary follows the disgraced Theranos founder in the weeks before she began serving an 11-year prison sentence for defrauding investors. The filmmakers were given extraordinary access to Holmes, her partner Billy Evans and their children, spending 34 days documenting the family’s life at their California home before she went to prison in May 2023. But what starts as a fairly straightforward documentary takes some unexpected turns, including the appearance of Seyfried. After Holmes begins her sentence, Fielder recruits the actress to step back into the role and recreate moments that weren’t captured on camera. Things get even stranger when Seyfried becomes involved in the documentary as herself, spending time with Evans and speaking directly to Holmes over the phone. At one point, Seyfried even joins Fielder for a tense dinner with Evans. Interestingly, the documentary also shows Holmes watching Seyfried’s performance in The Dropout for the first time. She becomes emotional and asks for it to be switched off. While the actress hasn’t explicitly confirmed that this is what she was referring to on the red carpet, it could explain why she was being so careful about what she said. Some fans believe there may be another more personal reason too. Last month, Seyfried and her husband, actor Thomas Sadoski, announced their separation after nine years of marriage. A number of viewers raised this in response to the interviews. But while it’s possible that this could have impacted her, it’s far more likely the elusive questions and answers are down to avoiding spoilers about You Can See Everything. Immediately, she said, “Don’t ask me anything,” and when the interviewer joked, “I can see everything” – a reference to the doc’s title – she replied with a smile, “I don’t know what you mean.” He also asked about The Dropout and if she’s kept up with the news about Holmes, to which she replied, “On and off.” One thing we know for sure is that it’s clear Seyfried sees the funny side. In the comments section of THR’s interview on Instagram, she wrote, “What AM I even saying?” For all the latest film and TV updates and hot takes, like our Facebook page.
