Prime Video’s The Terminal List season 2 is finally here, and that wild ending has left people with one massive question, and that is whether James Reece actually dies after the finale. The ending sees Chris Pratt’s character survive another dangerous mission, but his biggest problem might not be another enemy. Reece has spent much of the story believing his brain tumour will kill him, and the final scenes bring that fear back into focus. After everything he has been through, Reece finally agrees to get his health checked. But just as we’re waiting to find out whether he has a future, the series ends with him preparing for an MRI scan. So, is this the end for Reece, or does he survive? Well, James Carr’s book gives us a much clearer idea of what happens next, even if the TV series leaves viewers waiting for an answer. James Reece survives the mission, but the show does not confirm whether his brain tumour has disappeared or whether he still needs treatment. In the finale, Reece discovers more about the conspiracy behind the attacks and learns that the plot has a personal connection to his father, Thomas Reece. He also kills Vasili Andrenov after learning more about the revenge scheme targeting his family. But even after surviving all that, Reece still has to face the uncertainty surrounding his health. Towards the end, Katie Buranek gives him her completed book about his life, James Reece: Our True Believer, and encourages him to stop putting off medical treatment. Reece then prepares for an MRI scan ahead of surgery. And that’s where the series leaves us. We don’t see the results, so we don’t really know whether the tumour is gone. So, what happens in the book? Credit: Amazon Prime Jack Carr’s novels continue Reece’s story beyond the events of the first book, The Terminal List. In fact, the second novel, True Believer, gives us important information about the brain tumour that Reece believes will kill him. At the start of the book, Reece is living in isolation in Mozambique after the events of the first novel. He still believes he has a terminal illness and is trying to come to terms with the possibility that he has very little time left. However, his former teammate Freddy Strain eventually finds him and reveals that his tumour is treatable. Freddy offers Reece a deal: Help the CIA investigate a series of terrorist attacks, and the government will grant him and his associates a pardon. That changes things quite a bit. Reece is no longer simply waiting for his life to end. He has a chance to survive, even though he must decide whether he is willing to return to the dangerous world he tried to leave behind. So, if you’re wondering whether Reece’s story ends with him dying from his brain tumour, the answer is no. The books take his story beyond that point. He learns that his tumour is treatable, rather than the guaranteed death sentence he originally believed it to be. In the book, his tumour is ultimately gone. The show might change the ending, but for now, it’s safe to assume that Reese doesn’t die. For all the latest film and TV updates and hot takes, like our Facebook page.
