Oh, you thought American Horror Story season 13 is the last one? Think again, as apparently Ryan Murphy wants to make the show “forever” if he gets the chance. The 13th chapter has been an absolutely wild ride so far, bringing together iconic characters from Murder House, Coven, Freak Show, Hotel and Cult. You’d think with such a huge crossover event, it would serve as the perfect conclusion for Murphy’s long-running horror series. In fact, some of the returning cast thought that’s exactly what was happening. Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Billie Lourd and Gabourey Sidibe told The Hollywood Reporter that they were led to believe AHS 13 would be the last one. “I want to also say that Ryan said this was the last season. But now I understand that perhaps, it’s not,” Lange explained, to which Lourd added, “I think we all did.” However, Grossman said, “I did not… I think it’s understood that the show is going to go as long as he would like to keep doing the show. I was not under the same impression. I feel like he said it, though.” Whether he said it or not, Murphy has made his stance very clear: he’s not done with making American Horror Story. And he might not ever be. Where the confusion is coming from is perhaps because season 13 is the last Avengers-style crossover event Murphy has planned. When asked if he’d do it again, he replied, “Never! Never, no, no. I don’t think it would ever happen again.” “I don’t think I would ever want to do it again,” he added, although he did say, “I mean, I would like to work with all those actors and have some of the characters come back.” But getting back Lange and co. to play multiple characters from various past seasons most likely isn’t on the cards. Plus, Murphy is happy with where they end up in season 13. “I like how it ends with a lot of the characters,” he continued. “Some of them live, some of them die. So I think it would be different with other seasons.” As for where American Horror Story might go next, Murphy said, “I love doing it. I really want this show to go international. I’m interested in: what is an international version of Horror Story? That’s something I’m writing right now, maybe, but I don’t know – I just like branching out.” Credit: FX Even though we can expect new cast and characters, some of the familiar faces aren’t averse to returning down the line. Paulson told the outlet, “I’ve always said you’re gonna have to drag me out of this universe kicking and screaming. I took season 11 and 12 off, so my appetite is churning again, and now I want more because I’m greedy that way. So if he wants me back, I’ll probably be back.” Until then, we’ve still got more American Horror Story season 13 to enjoy, with episodes 9-10 arriving on FX on Thursday, October 15, and streaming on Hulu the following day, or Disney+ if you’re outside the US.
