Sam Neill completed four on-screen projects before his death, meaning people will still get to see him in a number of new releases over the coming months. Matt Baron/BEI/Shutterstock The beloved New Zealand actor died from pneumonia, his longtime representative Philip Grenz confirmed. Speaking to Entertainment Now, Grenz also shared that Neill’s family are planning a private memorial service in New Zealand. “As Sam was an intensely private man who loathed a fuss, his family will honor him with a private family memorial at his farm in New Zealand at a still-undetermined later date,” he said. Grenz added: “I’d like to thank those who were truly close to Sam for considering his privacy with the respect he earned and his loved ones need and deserve during this immeasurably difficult time.” He also revealed that Neill had filmed four projects over the past year, “all of which will be released within the coming months”. Here’s everything we know about the projects that will be released after his death. Godzilla x Kong: Supernova Legendary Entertainment/Toho The biggest of the four is Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, the next instalment in the MonsterVerse franchise, which is currently scheduled to arrive in cinemas on 26th March 2027. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Neill completed filming all of his scenes before he died. However, details of his character are still being kept firmly under wraps, so people will have to wait to find out exactly who he’s playing. The Last Resort Neill will also appear in The Last Resort, a romantic comedy starring Daisy Ridley and Alden Ehrenreich. Set in the Philippines, the film follows an ambitious New York hotel executive, played by Ridley, who travels overseas to scout the location for a luxury resort. While there, she unexpectedly falls for an expat pilot played by Ehrenreich. Neill plays a character called Gerard. Directed by Miss Congeniality filmmaker Donald Petrie, the film is currently in post-production and is expected to be released in 2027. It is also expected to be Neill’s final live-action screen appearance. Untamed Another project still to come is Untamed, a Netflix limited series set in Yosemite National Park. The mystery thriller stars Eric Bana alongside Neill, with the story focusing on a character-driven investigation in the famous national park. The series is also expected to debut in 2027. Freedom Flight A fourth project, Freedom Flight, is also believed to have been filmed before Neill’s death, although its release remains uncertain. Neill was due to play Istvan Kolta in the historical drama, which tells the story of a group of Hungarian students who hijacked a domestic flight in 1956 in an attempt to escape communist rule. While Grenz said all four of Neill’s completed projects would eventually be released, there has been no official update on Freedom Flight or when people can expect to see it.
