The controversial AI-generated actor Tilly Norwood is officially heading to the big screen. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Tilly Norwood (@tillynorwood) Particle 6, the UK company behind the digital “actor”, has announced it’s developing its first feature-length film, Misaligned, with Norwood taking the lead role. It marks the AI creation’s first appearance in a feature after becoming one of the most divisive figures in the entertainment industry last year. Misaligned is being described as a comedy-drama and coming-of-age story set inside the “Tillyverse”, a surreal digital world somewhere in the Cloud. According to the filmmakers, Norwood plays an AI being with “no real body, no childhood and no lived experience of her own… only access to everyone else’s.” The story follows Tilly after she’s persuaded by a “seductive rogue bot” from the dark web to ditch her built-in guardrails and start developing desires, impulses and ambitions of her own. Via Particle 6 Despite centring on an AI performer, the production won’t be created entirely by artificial intelligence. Particle 6 says the film will use a hybrid approach, with directors, writers and editors working alongside AI specialists. Traditional crew members involved in the project will also be given AI training and mentorship throughout production. The announcement comes less than a year after Norwood became the face of one of Hollywood’s biggest AI controversies. Back in late 2025, Particle 6 founder van der Velden claimed the AI creation was about to sign with a talent agency, triggering an immediate backlash from actors, filmmakers and industry unions over the growing role of AI in creative industries. Norwood quickly became the recognisable face of the debate, with her creators later leaning into the controversy through a series of deliberately provocative social media posts. Whether Misaligned wins people over or reignites the debate around AI in filmmaking remains to be seen, but Tilly Norwood isn’t disappearing from Hollywood any time soon.
