A lip reader reveals Demi Moore’s shady response to her best actress loss at the Oscars

A lip reader has revealed the pretty shady response Demi Moore had when she missed out on the best actress award at the 2025 Oscars last night.

Ahead of the ceremony, Demi Moore had been hot favourite to take home the best actress award at the Oscars, but she ended up missing out. Demi’s role as Elisabeth Sparkle in body horror The Substance has already won her a Golden Globe.

However, 25-year-old Mikey Madison ended up taking the Oscars title. Madison won the award for her role in Anora. The film took home five of the six awards it had been nominated for.

Obviously, Demi was a bit shocked as her name wasn’t read out as the winner. People on Twitter and watching the show noted Demi didn’t exactly look impressed, and have been trying to work out what she said following the snub. She was seen gritting her teeth as soon as Madison’s name was called.

And now, a lip reader has revealed her icy reaction to missing out. Speaking to MailOnline, they revealed she had a shady one-word response to the situation.

Lip reader Nicola Hickling said: “Demi says ‘nice’ but she isn’t smiling when she says it. Her body is almost nodding like she had to force herself to say it.” Ouch. Demi was however seen applauding Madison, as she later went up onto the stage to collect the award.

People on Twitter also spoke of the shock moment. One person said Demi was “robbed” whilst another called it the “biggest snub in Oscars history.” Very extreme!

Lots of people joked that Demi losing out to Madison was much like the plot of The Substance. “Demi Moore losing to Mikey Madison is basically the plot of the Substance,” one person said. Another added: “Demi Moore losing Best Actress to a younger, hotter actress is literally what The Substance is about. Crazy.”
