I was a huge defender of Smile when it came out in 2022. For a mainstream horror film with a name as crap as that, and all the makings of it being just another jumpscare filled eye roller that you’ve seen before. What’s even more amazing about how Smile was actually good is it is derivative of films like It Follows, but is enjoyable enough in its own right with its audacious ending you don’t really mind. Smile 2 I was less hot on, but still worth watching. If you haven’t seen it, Paramount has now released the best gimmick ever – you can watch the first seven minutes of Smile 2 for free but you have to keep smiling the whole time.

Pure genius, hugely silly – here’s how to do it and how it all works.

A jaw workout

Head over to this link here, and you’ll be prompted to add your date of birth. Smile 2 is an 18, so no f*cking about guys it’s proper scary. The opening sequence is a really intense shoot out vibe and it wraps up the only living character from the first film’s story.

When you’ve set your age up, you’ll have to activate your camera. Then the clever technology can tell when you are smiling and when you aren’t. If you stop smiling then the film will pause and only resume when you give it a big toothy grin once again. Ouch.

What makes this so hard is the fact that this opening seven minutes is full of action, chaos and a few jump scares. If you can stay smiling for the full seven minutes you honestly deserve a medal. I might try and test myself to see how much I can get through without my smile dropping.

I wasn’t a huge fan of Smile 2, but the opening absolutely rips to be fair and it’s worth a free watch whilst you can. And I have to applaud such a sick gimmick. See you in a bit, I’m off for a jaw massage.
