The original Weapons script leaked and it proves there was a major change in the final film

It completely changed things between Alex and Aunt Gladys

Weapons has been absolutely dominating the film discourse for over a month now, and people are still finding new things to talk about. I mean, this is obviously expected since it’s clearly one of the most fun and interesting to analyse releases of the entire year. One of the main things getting discussed right now is the fact that an old version of the script is doing the rounds online – clearly taken from an earlier draft before Weapons started shooting – and it has one major change in it that flips the whole dynamic of the film. It’s fascinating to see how different things would play out with this version, so here’s what was changed that made Weapons different then the script we saw play out on the big screen.

It’s all to do with Alex and Gladys

So, in the Weapons we saw – Alex ended up manipulated into helping Gladys do her spell which caused all the children in Justine Gandy’s class to go missing. He was an active participant in what went down, and this made the film interesting because you understood why he helped but it was still shocking he took part in it. It also made the ending more satisfying when Alex freed the kids too and had a lot of quick thinking skills for a child of his age.

But in this earlier draft of the Weapons script, things had changed. The pages can be seen on the Weapons Reddit, and it proves there was a massive change in the Alex chapter of the film.

As per the script screenshots, there was a seen where Justine Gandy reminded Alex and the class they were due to share Valentine’s Day cards and that everyone in the class was going to get one. Alex then was seen signing a load of the cards to each of his classmates. He gives them all out and receives 17 from the class too.

He is moved by all the nice messages from his classmates. At night,  he then goes downstairs at night to find Aunt Gladys doing her ritual with the Valentine’s Day cards.

Obviously, in the actual film it was changed so that Alex personally took all the name cards of his classmates as objects belonging to them to give to Gladys for the ritual. This implicated him a lot more in what happened, as he helped Gladys do her ritual in order for her to leave and him to get his parents back from the spell she put them under.
