Revealed: The chilling final words spoken to Titan sub crew before it imploded

Tym Catterson, a safety diver, had been working closely with the Titan sub crew

The final words said to the Titan sub crew before they disappeared have now been revealed. The details first came to light last month in a BBC documentary, which took a closer look at the events leading up to the deep-sea tragedy.

And today, Netflix has released a brand new documentary called Titan: The Oceangate Disaster, revisiting the tragedy that shocked the world.

In June 2023, the OceanGate Titan submersible set off from a ship in the North Atlantic, aiming to explore the wreck of the Titanic.

The mission was meant to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. On board were five people: British billionaire Hamish Harding, Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his 19-year-old son Suleman, OceanGate’s CEO Stockton Rush, and Titanic expert and former French navy diver Paul-Henri Nargeolet.

The dive was expected to take around 10 hours. But less than two hours in, the Titan lost contact with its support ship. What followed was a tense four-day search, with teams from around the world joining the rescue effort.

Sadly, hopes of finding them alive ended when debris from the sub was found on the ocean floor. It was later confirmed that the Titan had suffered a catastrophic implosion, killing everyone on board instantly. Investigations also revealed that safety concerns had been raised about the sub before, but were reportedly ignored.

So, what were the final words spoken to the Titan sub crew?

According to the BBC doc, the last person to speak to the crew was Tym Catterson. He was a safety diver who had been working closely with them during preparations.

Tym was the one who helped young Suleman Dawood into the sub. And watched as the hatch was closed and bolted shut. He then stepped back and gave the crew the all-clear to begin their descent.

Just before they disappeared beneath the surface, Tym said, “Have a good dive.”

At the time, no one knew those would be the final words spoken to the crew of the Titan. Moments later, the sub began its descent, and was never seen again.
