People are raging after the Lilo & Stitch director teased a HUGE change to the upcoming remake

Apparently some people do get left behind

People are understanably angry after the director for the upcoming Lilo & Stitch live action remake seemingly teased a major change to the iconic character of Pleakley.

After the utter sh*tshow that was the Snow White live-action remake, Disney announced plans to scale back the amount they’re doing in desperate attempts to trigger our nostalgia. That being said, Lilo & Stitch is basically already done and set for a May 23 release. Though the film has already drawn criticism over casting choices, the director Dean Fleischer Camp recently revealed a detail that has me about ready to riot.

There’s a major change to Pleakley in the upcoming Lilo & Stitch remake

When the trailer for Lilo & Stitch was released last month, people quickly clocked how Pleakley – the gender bending alien drag icon – was dressed in male clothing. If you cast your mind back to those wholesome childhood binge sessions of Lilo & Stitch, you’ll remember how Pleakley’s “human” disguises were largely female-presenting. Still, it was just the trailer, right? Just because he wasn’t serving c*nty outerspace Karen didn’t mean he wasn’t going to in the film.

Well, in a recent TikTok video, director Dean Fleischer Camp answered some of the burning questions people had after watching the trailer. The clip was only two minutes long, but it shattered expectations.

Responding to someone who rightly pointed out, “How dare they ruin Pleakley’s disguise like that”, Dean responded with concept art for Pleakley in drag and the devastating response, “I tried.”

His response would seemingly suggest that someone at Disney – you know who you are – refused to include Pleakley in his drag form.

One person said in response: “Baby, when he said he tried, he means Disney said no. Given the political climate, it’s not shocking Disney wanted no part. Sad, but I won’t blame the director. I’ll blame Disney.”

“FIX PLEAKLEY. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. THEY FIXED SONIC. YOU CAN FIX AUNTIE PLEAKLEY,” another screamed.

As a queer people it was near enough impossible to find characters we related to as kids, and while Pleakley was by no means a perfect or well-rounded representation, he was iconic nonetheless.

I don’t want to sound dramatic, but who have I got to fight?
