All the Disney live-action remakes ranked by how badly they bombed at the box office
How many Lion King movies does the world need?
That long-awaited, drama-riddled Snow White movie is finally out in cinemas. The film’s box office takings are, erm, underwhelming. Here’s a through look at how much money the 1,000+ other Disney live action remakes all made at the box office, for comparison purposes. Some of them did make ridiculous amounts of cash (hint: anything with talking lions in). Others really did not match up to the hype.
The budgets of all these Disney live-action remakes have spiralled over the years. That 2015 Cinderella film with Lily James only cost $90 million to make. But that new Snow White movie has an estimated budged of $270 million, but it’s raked in less than $100 million at cinemas so far. There’s a lot more pressure for the newer Disney live-action remakes to do well at the box office.
Believe it or not, Disney did also churn out live-action films called Lady and the Tramp, Pinocchio and Peter Pan & Wendy. But these movies went straight onto Disney+, which is why they’re not on this list.
Fyi, the Mulan movie’s box office earnings are so abysmal because it had the misfortune of being released in September 2020.
So, without further rambling, here are all the Disney live-action remakes ranked by how much (or how little) money they made at the box office.
14. Mulan – $69.9 million (£54 million)
13. Snow White – $92.6 million (£71.7 million) (so far)
12. Cruella – $234 million (£181 million)
11. Alice Through The Looking Glass – $300 million (£232 million)
10. Dumbo – $353 million (£273 million)
