Ready for round two? Here’s when you can expect to watch Wicked on streaming
I need it like now, but I guess I can wait a little longer
Wicked might only have hit the cinemas last month, but if previous releases are anything to go by we could be seeing Elphaba and Glinda on streaming services in the near future.
It might not be easy being green, but it’s incredibly easy to be a musical theatre lover in 2024. With the release of Wicked last month and the hilarious press tour that followed it, the colour green might be permanently etched into your brains even if you don’t know why Elphaba is her signature colour.
Though there is undoubtedly still time to watch Wicked at the cinema, there’s no denying that watching a film in the comfort of your own home carries its own allure. With that in mind, I’ve scoured the internet for any hint at when it might be arriving – here’s what I’ve discovered.
When is Wicked coming to streaming?
As of Monday, Wicked’s official release date for streaming is still flying up in the air with Elphaba on her broomstick. We aren’t yet certain, but all hope is not lost.
Film news accounts on Twitter are currently reporting that Wicked will be coming to streaming in either February or March, meaning we’ve only got a couple of months to wait after we get past the chaos of Christmas. The Hollywood Reporter theorises the same window, arguing that most films come out between 60 and 90 days after hitting cinemas. In rare cases it’s sometimes 120 days after release, placing Wicked’s streaming launch in the first week of April.
Personally, I am choosing to believe it’s right around the corner in February.

Which streaming service will it be available on?

Because Wicked comes from the wizards (not THE Wizard) at Universal Pictures, it’s expected that the flick will initially get a release on NBCUniversal-owned streaming service Peacock. Though this means it’s easy peasy for our friends across the pond to watch Wicked, it’s slightly more difficult for us in the UK.
Nonetheless, you can still enjoy Wicked providing you have either a Sky TV package, which starts at £26 per month, or a £9.99 subscription to NOW TV. I know which I’m picking.
Once the film is officially out on streaming, you can also expect it to appear for purchase on Prime Video and YouTube. Sometimes, such sites surprise us with an early release so keep your eyes peeled.
