Kate Winslet just revealed the sad reason she avoids talking about Titanic
She’s so much more than just ‘Rose’
When you think of Kate Winslet, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? Titanic, obviously. The 1997 film was one of her biggest roles, but she totally avoids speaking about it.
The 49-year-old rarely mentions the movie in interviews, and she doesn’t love to be asked about her role as Rose – but why?
Well, Kate finally revealed the reason this week and it’s actually pretty sad. If she mentions Titanic even in a fleeting comment, that’s all people seem to care about.
In a new interview with 60 Minutes, the interviewer said “Let’s talk about Titanic” and the actress replied “Really?” – like she was saying: “Do we actually have to?!”
“It wouldn’t be an interview with you without talking about Titanic,” the interviewer urged, and Kate said: “It could be.” She then asked if it annoys her that people still talk about the movie so much 27 years later, and Kate had a lot to say.
“I tell you what I do sometimes find curious is whatever I say about Titanic will often be the take home so I just think ugh well there were those things I said about the film I was talking about and yet that’s the one thing,” she explained.
So, she doesn’t tend to talk about Titanic much because if she does, that’s the thing people will always pick out. The actress would rather people focus on the amazing roles she is doing now instead of one from over a quarter of a century ago.

This year, the actress has appeared in the HBO political drama The Regime and Sky Original war film Lee, and she wants people to talk about those instead.

She did say “I’m happy to talk about Titanic,” so there’s no drama – it’s just time for some of her other roles to shine instead because she’s so much more than just “Rose from Titanic”.
