Yale sophomore discovered 16 of her siblings online

‘I’d never thought about having half brothers and sisters’

Kacie Saxer-Taulbee is currently a sophomore in TD majoring in psychology.

But when she was seven, Kacie sat down with her younger sister Kailyn and listened as her two moms explained how they were conceived with a through a sperm donor. Six years later, she tried to find more information about her father, and instead found 16 half-siblings who shared the same paternal DNA as her and Kailyn.

“Immediately, I felt as if I’d found a missing piece and I didn’t even know I was looking for,” Kacie said in a recent interview with Seventeen. “I’m part of this huge group of people just living their lives while sharing half their DNA with total strangers.”

Within a year, she met up with some of her siblings who call themselves 5010ers – since their father was donor 5010. A total of 13 of them are in touch, staying in contact via Facebook and “secret sibling” gift-exchange during the holidays.

“I’ll probably never know my full family history, but we’ve created a mosaic with each of our pieces, and we help fill gaps in each other’s lives,” Kacie added.

“We’ve also gotten a sense of who our father is, and I like to think he’d be happy to know that we’ve found each other.”
