UW student assaulted by man during attempted abduction

Two WiscAlerts were sent out early this morning

A UW-Madison student was walking home from College Library around 1am this morning when she was assaulted by a man with a knife.

According to an email sent out by the UW-Madison Police Department, the young woman was walking home when a man approached her from behind and put her in a headlock. The student was wearing earphones, so she did not hear the suspect approach.

The man then moved the victim to a parking lot near Social Sciences on Observatory Drive. While moving the student the suspect struck the victim multiple times with an edged weapon.

The victim was eventually able to escape and get help. The suspect fled the scene in a green vehicle.

The suspect is described as 5"8', 175 pounds and was last seen wearing black-framed glasses in a beanie.

The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment.

The police have increased patrols in the area and are asking anyone with information to call (608)-264-COPS.

Students are also encouraged to avoid wearing headphones, and travel with friends or make use of SAFEwalk.
