T.J. Watt declares he will be leaving the Badgers in 2017

We will miss you dearly, T.J.

University of Wisconsin-Madison junior T.J. Watt announced he will be leaving for the NFL Draft this year.

Tears may have been shed when he announced his decision on Tuesday morning over Twitter, and his humble statement tugged at our heart strings.

He tweeted “This season has been an absolute blast.  I could not have asked for a better group of guys to play with, better coaches to pay for, or a better fan base to represent.  Playing for the University of Wisconsin has always been a dream of mine and I am extremely fortunate to have been able to fulfill that dream.  After thinking over the options and discussing them with my family, I have decided that the time has come to continue my journey and declare for the 2017 NFL Draft.  This decision was by no means an easy one, but I feel that it is the right decision for me at this time.  Thank you to all of my teammates, coaches, and you fans for the incredible memories. Once a Badger, Always a Badger.  On Wisconsin!”

According to NBC 15, Watt made 63 total tackles, including 11.5 sacks during the Badgers’ 2016 season, and he was announced as a second team All-American.

The 6’5″ junior from Pewaukee is surely following in his brothers’ footsteps, both of whom play for the NFL.  The Badger pride is strong with this family, and they’ll always have their Madison fans to fall back on.

Good luck, T.J., we wish you the best.

Sincerely,

Badger football fans
