Ten things Obama did that made you smile

Thanks, Obama. No sarcasm, honestly thank you Obama

With all the devastation and heartbreak in the last 24 hours over our new president, Donald Trump, it’s time to give ourselves a little relief. Let us not forget all the great things Obama did for our country, and I’m not just talking about his duties in office.

Obama connected with this generation, he listened to what we had to say, but also made an effort to keep us thinking optimistically about the future. From embracing the famous meme ‘Thanks Obama’ to wearing a friendship bracelet with his vice president/best friend, Joe Biden, Obama really knows how to make us all laugh and smile.

Here are ten things Obama did that will make us remember why we love him and why we will never forget his eight amazing years in office.

He unconditionally loves his wife, Michelle Obama

In the past eight years, we’ve seen Obama show his gratitude and love towards Michelle, and it seems to have only gotten stronger. He’s not afraid or intimidated by how intelligent she is, and often times we’ve seen Michelle put the president in his place and he is completely okay with it. With a new president like Trump, Obama is a prime example that shows chivalry is in fact not dead.

He invited Kid President to the White House

Remember when Obama gave Kid President a tour and let him sit in his desk?  He even told Kid President to keep up the good work. That video warmed all of our hearts.

He sang Al Green’s ‘Let’s Stay Together’ at an event

And he wasn’t half bad either.

He did a historic iconic mic drop

‘Obama out.’

He embraced the nationwide meme of ‘Thanks Obama’

What other president would be cool enough to do that? He also collaborated with Buzzfeed, making the video ‘Things Everyone Does but Doesn’t Talk About’ and it’s hilarious.

He had Keegan Michael-Key be his angry translator at the 2015 White House Correspondents Dinner

Comedy Central’s ‘Key & Peele’ had presented this sketch for five seasons. Jordan Peele played Barack Obama, while Keegan Michael-Key played Luther, his angry translator. Obama saw the opportunity to make a not-so-exciting event one people wouldn’t forget.

He read mean tweets about himself on television

From his witty responses to him agreeing with the tweets and laughing along with it, he takes the heat a lot better than half of us would.

He made friendship bracelets for himself and Joe Biden

Joe’s tweet truly shows their love and friendship together. If this isn’t your BFF goal, then I don’t know what is.

He let a little boy feel his head

The boy wanted to know if his hair felt like President Obama’s hair. Obama simply said ‘why don’t you touch it and see for yourself?’ He then lowered his head so the boy could touch his hair. Around the country, this showed that Obama was as sweet as can be.

Obama and Biden ran around with the LGBTQ flag

Millions of people saw this picture and the White House lit up that night with the rainbow shine for all to see. When passed through Congress, Obama tweeted ‘today is a big step in our march towards equality. Gay and lesbian couples now have the right to marry, just like anyone else. #LoveWins’ and that is something worth smiling about.

Though we may have a hard few years ahead of us, let us not forget to stay positive and smiling, just like Obama has shown us. It’s been a great eight years with Obama, and he was truly the best president we’ve ever had. Thanks Obama.
