The best places to take your parents on campus

Jump Around, take a shot at the KK, and enjoy the beauty of the terrace

There’s nothing better than having your parents visit campus. The attention is unlimited, meals are delicious, and shopping sprees are that much more enjoyable. In order to ensure your parents experience Wisconsin the right way, visiting certain places is a must. Here are the best places to take your parents when they come to visit UW-Madison.

The terrace

This is a given. Treat your parents to a “taste” of the terrace by eating at the infamous Daily Scoop ice-cream while looking at paddle boarders from the sunburst chairs above.  Who doesn’t love family photos by the lake?

A football game

Jumping around with your friends is great, but jumping around with your family is even better! Be sure to bring your parents to a badger football game so they can sing On Wisconsin, and do the wave!

The KK

Honestly, you aren’t getting in without them anyway. Drinking, dancing, and mingling with your parents is always fun, especially at the best bar on campus. Plus, free shots taken with mom and dad taste even better.

Farmers Market

Add a little “flavor” to your Saturday morning and walk by the capital to the farmers market. Have your parents try some homegrown veggies and cheeses to make their mouths salivate. If you don’t take a picture with a sunflower in front of the capitol after purchasing spicy cheesy bread, you are 100 percent doing something wrong.

The bookstore

Who else is going to buy you endless game day apparel? I’m sure your parents will proudly purchase a “Badger Parent” shirts as well.

Picnic Point

Grab a bike or your running sneakers and take your parents to one of Madison’s hidden gems. Picnic Point is the best place to relax and take in the scenic view. If you’re lucky, you might even catch the band practicing for game day!

Graze

If you want the BEST cheese curds in the world, bring your parents to Graze. A true Wisconsin farm-to-table meal, Graze is the premier spot to enjoy scrumptious food while glaring at the beautifully lit capital.

If you live far from home, visits from parents are infrequent. Be sure to make the most of the time spent in Wisconsin, and also thank your parents for sending you to the best school in the world!
