Hokies roll past Flames

Tech offense has big day, while Liberty plagued by penalties

In their first game of the 2016 season, the Hokies rallied from a slow first quarter to dominate the Liberty Flames 36-13.

Quarterback Jerod Evans had an impressive debut.  In addition to 57 rushing yards, he threw for 221 yards and four touchdowns.  Isaiah Ford was his go-to receiver, compiling 11 receptions for 117 yards and a touchdown.

“We wanted to execute and show the fans what we’ve been doing,” Evans said after the game.

With Tech’s passing game having a solid day, fans are a bit more optimistic about playing Tennessee, who almost lost to Appalachian State in overtime.

While the Hokies had a good season-opener, the same cannot be said for Liberty.  The Flames’ loss was expected, but the mediocre coaching and execution was not.  With poor offense, stupid decisions in clutch moments and too many false starts to count, VT had no trouble pulling away in the second half.

Yes, this blowout win was anticipated, but it’s still awesome to relish in victory before the Battle at Bristol.  Sorry LU, football is for big boys.
