Community reacts to Virginia Tech email threats

Police are still investigating

This afternoon emails were sent from at least four different Gmail accounts to dozens of email addresses threatening the Virginia Tech community. With the subjects “Warning” and “Last call” they read: “I am here to inform that in the next couple of days I will break into the campus and will kill as many people as I can untill the police arrives (sic).”

According to the Collegiate Times some professors cancelled classes while others went into lockdown mode. The VT Police Department released the following statement: “At this time, Virginia Tech Police can confirm that an email was sent to dozens of email addresses within our campus community that included a threat to campus safety. Virginia Tech Police take all such incidents seriously and are actively investigating.”

VT junior, Megan Koch, said in regards to the various emails, “I’ve seen both and they have different sender names. I couldn’t tell you why or if one is the real one or not, there are a lot of rumors flying around that I’m not totally sure what is going on besides that an email was sent out with a threat to campus.”

Anyone with additional information is urged to email [email protected] or call 540-382-4343 as police continue to investigate the threat.

As the Virginia Tech community waits in fear and confusion, we compiled some of the reactions on Twitter to today’s threat.

Keep updated on further developments and stay safe, VT.
