We sat down with the lead singer of Parachute

Try to forget that they went to that other Virginia school…

Parachute is one of my favorite bands. So when Will Anderson, lead singer, agreed to answer a few questions, I nearly cried (and I’m only half joking). You’ll know Parachute from their popular songs, “She is Love,” and “Can’t Help,” but you should totally check out their new album, Wide Awake, too! The homegrown band from Charlottesville, VA, is coming to Virginia Tech this Saturday, August 27th.

Yes, they went to that other Virginia school down the road, but we can let that slide for a few hours, right?

How would you describe your music to a student who has never heard of you?

It’s fun, piano driven, soulful pop rock.

Briefly, how did Parachute come to be?

We formed in high school after school, then stuck together through college. We released our first album in 2009 and just recently released our fourth.

What was your favorite organization you joined in college?

I sang in an a cappella group at UVA, and loved singing five to six days a week.

What’s your favorite song you’ve written?

Our new song Jennie is probably my favorite overall song.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned from the music industry?

Nothing comes quickly. Just put your head down and do the work.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I like reading and writing and playing golf.

Tell us something that people may not know about you.

I eat fruit with ketchup.

What is one piece of advice you have for students?

Go to class. Even if you don’t study or do homework, just showing up to class will help you skate by way more than the opposite.
Tickets are only $10 for students and are available for purchase here.
