Austin Nichols dismissed from the basketball team

He was already suspended earlier this season

Following his 11 points and three rebounds in Tuesday’s game against St. Francis, redshirt junior Austin Nichols has been dismissed from the mens basketball team by head coach Tony Bennett.

The Collierville, TN native transferred to UVA from the University of Memphis last year. He was suspended for the season opener at UNC Greensboro after violating team rules. Coach Bennett in a statement from the University said there are “standards for our student athletes” that have consequences when not met.

The 2-0 Cavaliers are currently ranked 8th in the NCAA. Nichols was the only player in double figures Tuesday, and his absence is predicted to drop the team’s ranking according to ESPN.
