What just happened to our Sabre points?

Hoo Crew no longer in control of ticket distribution

Although not a reference to a spirited drinking game invented by Thomas Jefferson, UVASHOTS is still an important aspect of our lives: it’s how we get those coveted men’s basketball tickets.

There has been a change in ticket distribution requiring us to create new SHOTS accounts, suggesting hard-earned points to gain multiple lottery entries are now obsolete.

The first ticket request period sounds like it will be a free-for-all.

In an email to the student body, Virginia Basketball said: “Due to a change in our ticketing provider, there have not been any Sabre Rewards events so far this semester.

“Therefore, all students will have one (1) entry in the first men’s basketball request period.”

The email didn’t seem so heartbreaking at first

Students are expressing outrage at the idea of not getting a ticket despite their seniority of having attended many sporting events to 1) get a better chance for tickets and 2) get in early entry groups to the games.

Bobby Chan told The Tab: “It’s unfair to students that have been going to games for years, because they would find themselves in group one next to someone who is attending their first game.

“The old system rewarded loyalty with better seats, but it seems like that is a thing of the past.”

If Hoo Crew really has lost control of ticketing, students surely won’t be quiet about wanting to re-establish the old system. The discontent is evident.

It should probably be a felony, tbh

The home opener for this season is on November 13 versus Morgan State.

Although students can’t influence their likelihood of receiving a ticket to this game, the process to request tickets is still the same.

The request period for the first home game begins this Saturday October 24 at 12:01am.
