Someone wrote ‘Black Lives Matter’ on UT’s Confederate statues

It’s not the first time it’s happened

Confederate statues on the UT campus were vandalized today with the words “Black Lives Matter.”

Campus services were promptly alerted, and the statues have been cleaned up. The UTPD are now investigating the issue.

A photo of James Stephen Hogg statue was posted on Yik Yak earlier today

A UT spokesperson said: “University police were notified at 7:55 a.m. of graffiti at four locations on the South Mall – some statues and a set of inscriptions on the mall.

“The police notified facilities services for cleanup, which happened immediately. The statues and wall are currently free of graffiti. UTPD is investigating the matter.

“The university does not condone defacing public property. We encourage people to seek more constructive ways of expressing their opinions.”

This comes after David Joseph, 17, was shot and killed by an APD officer on Monday. He was unarmed and naked when he was fatally shot by the police.
