Brent Musburger will vote against Darnold in the Heisman race if USC changes Traveler’s name

Robert E. Lee’s horse was named Traveller

Brent Musburger, former college football announcer, vowed to vote against USC quarterback Sam Darnold if the university changes the name of their mascot, Traveler.

He made this statement in an interview with Barstool Sports:

Recent controversy, spearheaded by the USC Black Student Assembly, pinned Traveler as a subject of white supremacy. The Assembly found that Robert E. Lee's horse was also named Traveller, with one additional "l".

In response, some organizations and fans are pressuring the university to take action and change the name of its iconic mascot.

Others, including Musburger, are adamant to keep the tradition of Traveler, including his name.

Although Darnold has kept quiet about the controversy, if USC decides to change Traveler's name, it could impact his candidacy in the Heisman race.

Musburger will vote against Darnold, an early frontrunner for the prestigious award, and it is unclear how many other voters will take the same action.
