Target is the first storefront to open in the USC Village

P.S., there’s a Starbucks inside

Target’s newest location on USC’s campus officially opened its doors at 8a.m. on July 23rd, making it the first storefront open for business in the Village.

The small-format Target marked its grand opening with a DJ playing Top 40 hits as students and locals alike filed into the CVS-sized store.

Although the location is far smaller than a full-size Target, the corporation has done research to stock the store with as many college-necessary products as possible.

They offer fresh produce, groceries, electronics, clothes, beauty products, home goods, and more. They’re even stocked with Trojan apparel and accessories. Oh, and nothing screams “college” more than an in-store Starbucks.

“We’ve customized the USC Village store is to fit the needs of the guests in the University Park neighborhood,” Kristy Welker, spokesperson for Target, said.

With just under a month until move-in day, Target headquarters said they are prepared for the crowds to come.

Located at the corner of Hoover St and 32nd St, the Target sits at the base of the Cowlings Residential College. With easy access to main campus and to the underground parking structure that supports the Village, the store gives students an accessible option to shop and to work.

“Our current team member base is a mix of South Central community residents and students,” Welker said. “We are looking to hire more students, as we welcome them back to campus.”

The long awaited Trader Joe’s is opening right next door to the Target and is expected to open on August 18. Check out the other 8 storefronts opening in the Village here.
