VKC student workers watch your every move in the classrooms and we have the video to prove it

Don’t try projecting ‘Mask Off’ because the Future is already here … big brother is watching

In attempt to accommodate nearly 44,000 enrollees during finals week, USC allows students 24 hour access to the classrooms in VKC. The classrooms are equipped with whiteboards, blackboards, and projectors – aka perfect distractions from studying. I planned to take full advantage of the resources given.

At midnight, morale was low and there was still studying to be done. To give us a boost of energy, we agreed to play Future’s song, “Mask Off.” You know, the one that repeats “Molly” and “Percocet.” Maybe those were the things we actually needed … but we figured the song would suffice this time around.

We found an unofficial music video and decided it needed to be played on the big screen. I turned the projector on, plugged my laptop into the HDMI, and hit “play.” Fifteen seconds into the song, the projector turned off. I blamed my friend who I thought accidentally hit the “off” button, and she blamed me.

All was forgiven and I tried again. This time, we only got 10 seconds into the song before the projector turned off. Now adamant to get the screen to work, I decided to hold down the “on” button. The projector jerked down five inches and back up five inches like someone was holding down both the “on” and the “off” buttons.

After a 30-second power struggle, I quit the battle and let the projector roll all the way up. As it curled back up, I heard a voice through the projector panel. It was an ITS student worker.

They said, “excuse me, you can’t listen to music or any other videos on the media center. It’s only to study.”

Shook, we looked around and saw a video camera in the back corner of the room. The student workers were watching us. They were controlling what we could and could not do in the classroom that we were given access to.

My friend happened to be filming the ordeal as it went down.

So watch out, because Big Brother is alive and well in VKC. And Big Brother will not let you take that study break.

Shook

If you are as creeped out as I am, avoid VKC, avoid ITS student workers, and definitely avoid [the] Future. Happy finals.
