Your guide to planning the best spring break

It may only be February, but we’re so ready for SB 2k16

Our first few months back at Carolina, we’re already swamped with papers and exams. With Starbucks coffee mugs in hand, we’re rushing through the semester. Now is the time we’re starting to hear friends say: “I’m so ready for Spring Break.”

And immediately after that: “Uh, what are you doing for Spring Break?”

Whether you’re a first year who has no idea what a UNC Spring Break should look like or a senior who wants to go out with a bang, remember these things when planning the perfect trip.

Weather

If you want to go somewhere based on the weather, the further south you go, the better. There’s nothing quite like sitting out in the sun and not having to worry about class.

Find a place that’s known for good weather. Some good vacation spots are Wilmington, Florida and Cancun. Make sure you research the weather in these different areas. Just because it’s the beach doesn’t mean it’ll be nice and sunny in the middle of March.

Wherever you end up going, you’ll have to keep budgeting in mind. If you’re driving, figure out how much gas it’ll take to get to where you’re going. Don’t forget money for food, shopping and alcohol.

Make sure you plan a budget so you aren’t spending way more than you expected – and then stick to your budget. Start skipping those weekly Sup Dogs trips and start putting money in your “Spring Break 2k16” jar.

Plan ahead

Start looking into hotels and flights now. Check out websites like Expedia and Kayak to see if you can find deals on the places you want to go. If you are going somewhere tropical like Cancun, see if there are any all inclusive resorts. That way you don’t have to worry about setting aside money for food and margaritas because they’ll already be included.

Make a list of activities

You’re never too old for Disney World

Sometimes going on vacation means sitting around relaxing, but other times it means a day-to-day itinerary. If you’re the itinerary kind of person, then make sure you let everyone have a say in it. Don’t forget to make time for naps – napping and Spring Break go hand in hand.

Find some fun things to do wherever your destination may be. If it’s Florida, try to visit Universal Studios. Go shopping at Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. And don’t forget to Snapchat all of your shenanigans.

Wherever your Spring Break plans take you, don’t forget we still have a month until it’s actually upon us. So until then, study hard and enjoy your second semester, Tar Heels.
