A new Tar Heel made a PowerPoint for the Class of 2021 on ‘why you should be her friend’

She’s 1/2 of a doctor already

Introducing yourself online can be a hard thing to do. Most people post a simple paragraph, often including where they’re from and what they’re planning on studying – even though it usually changes, which is totally OK. Even though these intros are super useful and can help us get to know potential future besties, they can also get super boring, super fast.

Carolina admit Christa Parrish found a way to avoid that by making her own personalized meme. Her post in the UNC Class of 2021 Facebook group currently has 91 Facebook reactions and 39 comments. The Tab UNC reached out to Christa to ask why she chose a meme to ask students to “be her friend.”

What inspired you to make the post?

I made the post because I have a nasty circuit problem to do for physics and I don’t want to finish it. Secondary reasons were to make people laugh, and maybe make friends.

How has the reaction been so far?

The reaction has been good so far, although it’s mainly my existing friends who are reacting to it. External validation, though, is good in small doses.

Do you think personalized meme posting is a more effective way for people to get to know each other?

Posting a meme, being the particular art form that it is, is certainly a way to get to know people. Maybe it isn’t the best way, but everything is relative in the grand scheme of things.

What are you looking forward to most about college?

I’m looking forward to advanced classes in college! I have a passion for science and math, and the chance to study that at a high level is so amazing. Especially very specific classes that you don’t get a chance to take in high school.

How excited are you to be a future Tar Heel?

I’m pretty excited to have the possibility to be a Tar Heel.
