What to binge-watch over Fall Break

We know you won’t be doing anything else

Are you trying to find a TV show to binge over the break? Everyone knows that we should have already  watched the big ones–House of CardsUnbreakable Kimmy SchmidtOrange is the New BlackDaredevil–but which new shows are the best? No one enjoys narrowing down their Netflix queue, so here’s a list of the best shows you can finish in four days.

If you live on campus, you have access to HBO Go and most people have access to Netflix (even if you use your ex’s login information.) All of these shows are available on one or the other.

Stranger Things (Netflix)

Easily the phenomenon of 2016, Stranger Things has resulted in so many memes and new icons (shout out to Eleven). Go watch this eight episode season and you’ll be able to join the conversation on the sci-fi series set in the 80’s in which a boy disappears and stranger things happen.

The Get Down (Netflix)

This short series is only six episodes! Set in the Bronx in the 1970s, these teenagers and young adults step out to change the music industry. The casting of The Get Down makes the show worth a watch and the incredible music doesn’t hurt either.

Jessica Jones (Netflix)

Not many people are talking about Jessica Jones, but this is one of the best shows out there right now. Jessica is a private investigator haunted by her past and works to capture the one who harmed her. This is a must-see for anyone looking for strong female representation on television, and it’s only thirteen episodes.

Luke Cage (Netflix)

The first season of this show about a superhuman just premiered on Netflix a few weeks ago. This thirteen episode spinoff of Jessica Jones might work better if you’ve seen the first show, but Luke Cage definitely stands on its own. Plus, Luke pays homage to Trayvon Martin in an incredible way, so tune in to find out what he does!

The Leftovers (HBO)

Highly underrated and under-appreciated, The Leftovers has twenty episodes so far and focuses on the ‘leftovers’, the people left in the world after 2% of the world’s population disappeared in ‘The Departure.’ The characterization and drama will suck you into this story and leave you unable to watch anything else.

The Night Of (HBO)

An eight episode miniseries, The Night Of focuses on a Pakistani-American man accused of murder and finding his way through the criminal justice system in New York City. Critics have raved about it and it’s not the one to see if you’re looking for something lighthearted.

Veep (HBO)

Finally, we have a comedy. This show has been around for years and consistently rakes in the Emmy wins. Julia Louis-Dreyfus is a force to be reckoned with and so worthy of your time. She plays Vice President Selina Meyer and the show will have you laughing long after the half-hour episodes are over. Season one is only eight episodes and an easy way to pass the time.

Take this break to settle down, watch a show, and forget about the impending election/your midterms. And remember, binging on TV is much safer than binging on alcohol.
