A lot of people aren’t happy about Chase Rice headlining Jubilee

‘We’re waiting for an explanation’

CUAB announced on Friday that UNC alum and country singer Chase Rice will be this spring’s Jubilee performer. Rice was a football player at UNC from 2005-2008 and is now famous in the music world. His song “Carolina Can” references his time in Chapel Hill.

CUAB put together the Jubilee concert, which will be held on April 16th in Carmichael Arena, in lieu of the usual UNC Homecoming concert in the fall. But when they announced Chase Rice would be the performer yesterday, a lot of people weren’t happy.

UNC students tweeted replies to CUAB’s announcement.

Some students weren’t happy with Rice being chosen to make up for the lack of a homecoming concert.

Some even hinted CUAB could become the Meek Mill of UNC.

Queen Bey appeared in a few reactions.

And UNC’s Gospel Choir tried to reassure everyone by announcing their spring concert.

Some people really had no words – but they did have Photoshop.

If there’s one thing we learned this week, it’s that not everyone in the South is a country music fan.
