Roy Williams is OK to coach next game

He collapsed during a timeout in Tuesday’s game against Boston College

Even scarier than UNC’s near-loss to Boston College on Tuesday was the collapse of the Tar Heel head coach Roy Williams during a timeout. Williams was immediately taken to the locker room and did not return for the rest of the game.

In a post-game statement, Williams said although he felt well enough to return, he didn’t want to be a distraction to the team in a close game.

His collapse was attributed to vertigo, a condition he has dealt with for a few seasons. Williams said his collapse at Boston College was due to moving his head backward too quickly in the timeout.

Assistant Coach Steve Robinson stepped up in Roy’s absence, leading the team to a 68-65 win and earning a post-game shoutout from Marcus Paige on Twitter.

Coach  Williams is not expected to miss any additional time and will be ready to man the bench against Pittsburgh on Sunday.
