First-year applicants set record for 11th consecutive year

Who wouldn’t want to apply to UNC?

The number of applications to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has grown by 12 percent since last year, the second largest increase in the past 25 years.

“We continue to be grateful that so many terrific students are considering us for the next step in their academic journeys,” said Stephen Farmer, Vice Provost for Enrollment and Undergraduate Admissions.

The class of 2020 has seen a 10 percent increase in applications from in-state students, and a 19 percent increase from out-of-state students. Applicants also come from all 50 states as well as Washington, D.C.

The number of applicants who qualified for an application fee waiver increased by 26 percent, a good indicator of our affordability.

UNC expects the class of 2020 to have approximately 4,100 students. That means there will be even more people to join us in cheering on our sports teams.

Let’s keep it up UNC.
