We’re playing Temple tonight, but no one has ever heard of them
‘Oh, are they Jewish?’
The Tar Heels take on Temple University in the Veterans Classic Basketball Tournament at 7pm tonight.
In preparation for the game, I asked a few UNC students what they know about our temporary rival. Turns out Temple is pretty irrelevant.

Do you know about the game tonight against Temple?: “Oh, I didn’t know that.”
Where is Temple University?: “Indiana – no wait, Pennsylvania?”
What do you know about Temple?: “I’m pretty sure they are either a public school with a private school name or just a private school.”
Morgan, freshman, Nursing
Do you know about the game tonight against Temple?: “Oh, I didn’t even know that.”
Where is Temple University?: “Oh God, this is the worst question. Ummm…I don’t know. I’ve heard of it before, but for some reason I want to say Washington.”
What do you know about Temple?: “Well, they have a basketball team.”

Do you know about the game tonight against Temple?: “Oh, OK, yeah.”
Where is Temple University?: “I’m going to go with New York.”
What do you know about Temple?: “Um, I don’t think anything.”

Where is Temple University?: “Oh my gosh, this is awful. I should know this. I’m going to go with somewhere west.”
What do you know about Temple?: “Not much really. I think it’s Christian, but I’m not sure.”

Where is Temple University?: “I feel like it’s in Indiana.”
What do you know about Temple?: “When I was little, I thought it was a religious school because it was called Temple, but the parents were like, ‘no.'”

Where is Temple University?: “It’s in the north. I’m going to go out and say Massachusetts.”

Where is Temple University?: “Isn’t it in Maryland?”
What do you know about Temple University?: “It’s a conservative Catholic school.”

Where is Temple University?: “I don’t know, I hate this game. Virginia?”
What do you know about Temple University?: “No. I mean, I just thought they were Jewish, so obviously nothing.”
In case you don’t know these answers either, Temple University is in Philadelphia and they are known for their specialization in post-grad education. Don’t worry, even I had to look that up.
But there’s one thing we all know about Temple: they’re going to get beat by UNC tonight. Go Heels!
