The Mercantile Northampton closes for good on Saturday

The Mercantile in Amherst only has a few weeks left

The Mercantile Northampton is sad to announce that they will be closing this Saturday, February 6th after 33 years business.

Owners of The Mercantile, Dan and Elizabeth Neville, love their stores but claim that “it’s too much work for too little money.” The Northampton location on 108 Main Street opened in 1982 and is known for their candles, incense and wall tapestries galore.

The married couple is optimistic that a buyer will come forward and take over the local staple. They’re asking $85,000 for both stores. This labor of love is in desperate need of a new owner, but they’ve had no luck since first putting the stores on the market last fall.

The Nevilles have two children and intend to find new jobs once the business is officially out of their hands. The Amherst location is set to close sometime in March 2016, with both stores featuring liquidation sales. All merchandise in both stores is 50 percent off.
